Clarkstown
CLARKSTOWN RANKED 5TH SAFEST PLACE TO LIVE IN THE NATION!
Clarkstown is the commercial hub of Rockland County, as well as the
most densely populated of the five towns in the county. Centrally
located in the county, Clarkstown is approximately 30 miles north of
New York City. Characterized by gently rolling hills, the Clarkstown
area has historically been suited to agriculture. The Palisades
Mountain range runs along the eastern and northern rims of the town and
along the Hudson River coastline.
In 1990, Clarkstown's population was 79,346. Like most suburban towns,
Clarkstown has a mix of single and multi-family residences. Clarkstown
leads the County in commercial space, much of it concentrated in
several shopping malls and shopping centers. This area is very
accessible, with Route 59 as a major local roadway.
